![]() ![]() ![]() Eagle Heights, Kent ![]() | Volunteering Leopard and Predator Project The Landmark Foundation is an NGO dedicated to building the conservation economy. By joining this project you will be assisting the research team on field work across a large area of the Southern & Eastern Cape of South Africa. If you are interested in Conservation & Wildlife Management, this volunteering opportunity could be for you. It's a chance to see the real side of conservation, and to help make a difference. Pictures of collared and rescued leopards from our research A TYPICAL DAY On the road by 6 or 7am with telemetry to track leopards. By 10am its camera traps and then a return to your accommodation or picnic for a lunch break. Afternoons mean tracking again – often we are on a leopard’s trail for 3 days before being able to download data and then move to the next research area. Inbetween we do some data analysis and always a good cook up for dinner! Call outs for stock losses, rescues & collaring can’t be predicted. In the last 5 years the Foundation has rescued 32 leopards and collared 15. Eight live trap cages are in operation in the field. This makes our work very dynamic and flexible. During a 4 week stay you are likely visit the Karoo site where farm management research is underway. You will also join the education programme for two or three days- fitting into the always changing itinerary. FREE TIME This is your time to relax, explore and do your thing. From the base house there are many beautiful nature trails and a beach. Different wildlife sanctuaries, craft shops, the famous Bloukrans bungee jump and the seaside town of Plettenberg Bay are all within thirty minutes drive. Staff can assist you with transport where possible. You can volunteer for a mimimum of 2 weeks. Meals are included. You will have the opportunity to visit various other organisations whilst in the area, and will have a certain amount of free time. All ages are welcome but a certain level of fitness is required- there's lots of walking! A deposit of £100 (non-refundable) is requested on making your booking with us. Full payment is required a minimum of 2 months prior to your arrival to secure your place on the project. 2 – 4 weeks £380 / week 5 weeks – 3 months £350 / week All proceeds support this vital research. This is not an opportunity to come close with leopards, it is an opportunity to work at the fore-front of leopard research. Sightings are not guaranteed, but making a real difference is!
